Service Record & Tribute
Chief Petty Officer John Smith served with distinguished dedication across diesel and early patrol eras for over twenty-two years. Joining the Royal Navy in 1968, he qualified on submarines in 1970 aboard HMS Alliance.
Throughout his naval career, John was known for his calm professionalism in the control room, his meticulous engineering standard, and his unwavering loyalty to his crewmates. Upon retiring from active service in 1990, he became an active and cherished member of the RNSA Portsmouth Branch, frequently attending our monthly meetings and mentoring young submariners.
His memory lives on in the hearts of his shipmates and family. We surface to salute his enduring service. Rest in peace, Chief.
"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:"
"Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn."
At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We Will Remember Them.
